Key Points for Installing 6 Components of Jaw Crusher

What are the important considerations when installing the eccentric shaft, connecting rod, toggle plate, pitman, jaw plate, and other components of a jaw crusher?

Jaw crushers are widely used in mining, building materials, and infrastructure industries for primary and secondary crushing. They feature a simple structure and reliable operation. Correct installation and standardized procedures are essential for stable equipment performance.

Below, SHANVIM outlines the key points for the installation and operation of jaw crushers.

Jaw crushers are typically installed on concrete foundations. Due to the significant vibration generated during operation, the crusher foundation should be isolated from the plant foundation. During assembly, the crusher frame must be installed first, followed by the other components in sequence.

1. Installation of the Crusher Frame
When installing the frame, vibration-absorbing materials such as hard wood or rubber should be placed between the frame and the concrete foundation. The frame must be leveled both horizontally and vertically on the foundation or wooden base according to equipment requirements. During installation, the horizontal and vertical levelness should be within 0.2 mm.

2. Key Points for Eccentric Shaft and Bearing Assembly
Before assembling the shaft and bearings, the sliding bearings should be match-fitted and placed into the bearing housings. Use a level to check for horizontal alignment and coaxiality. If the measurements meet the requirements, install the eccentric shaft into the bearings. Apply red lead powder on the journal to inspect the fit between the shaft and bearings.

If there are excessive high spots on the bearing surface, further scraping and fitting are required until uniform contact is achieved. Finally, apply lubricating oil between the bearing housing and bearings to reduce wear. The contact area between the eccentric shaft sliding surface and the frame should be at least 80%, with a clearance of less than 0.07 mm.

3. Installation of the Connecting Rod
After the above components are installed, proceed with the connecting rod assembly. Before installation, carefully inspect the connecting rod and its mating surfaces. Once verified, hoist the connecting rod using a crane, clean it thoroughly with gasoline or kerosene, and apply a layer of lubricating oil to ensure smooth installation.

Then, install the upper bearing, main shaft, and upper bearing cap. Hoist the connecting rod, install the connecting rod bolts, and tighten them. If adding shims between the upper cap and the connecting rod results in oil leakage due to poor fit, machine the shims or replace them. If possible, assemble the connecting rod and main shaft components externally, then hoist the entire assembly into the frame using a crane.

4. Key Points for Toggle Plate Installation
To remove the toggle plate, loosen the tension rod spring nuts and remove the spring. Secure chains or wire ropes to the lower part of the swing jaw, then use a crane to pull the ropes, bringing the swing jaw closer to the fixed jaw. The toggle plate will then disengage automatically. For installation, reverse the steps.

5. Key Points for Pitman Installation
First, assemble the pitman components on the ground. Install the pitman, pitman shaft, swing jaw plate, toggle plate washer, etc., together. Then, hoist the assembled unit into the crusher frame using a crane or hoist.

For sliding bearings, match and fit the bearings into the bearing housings first. Check the coaxiality and inclination of the sliding bearings, ensuring an inclination within 0.2 mm and coaxiality within 0.06 mm to complete the pitman assembly.

6. Key Points for Jaw Plate Installation
The jaw plates are components directly involved in crushing ore. Though simple in structure, they require frequent replacement due to constant contact with ore. Jaw plates come in two types of cross-sectional profiles: smooth and grid. Due to their heavy weight, they should be designed for easy replacement.

Jaw plates are secured using bolts or wedges, fixed to the front wall of the frame or the pitman. The contact surfaces must be flat and even. If high spots are detected, address them promptly. Since the inner side of the front frame wall is not machined, place a soft metal shim between the fixed jaw plate back and the frame wall to ensure a tight fit.

Proper installation of the jaw crusher significantly influences its performance, making correct installation and operation crucial.
